Over the course of six weeks Philadelphia's High School students have worked hard to beautify the Art Center and get popularity. I am happy to say that we have accomplished our goals for the summer and we are celebrating with a party Friday, August 13, 2010 @ 12:00 -2:00 pm located at the Overbrook Art Center. We plan to display the mural on the side of the Art Center, which was painted by other workers of Education Works including Joel Clymer. We will also be displaying our biggest project here at the Overbrook Art Center, the mosaic that all of us High School students worked on with the help from Mosaic Artist Patricia Metzner-Lynch. We will also be displaying a movie that was created by the students, with the help of media expert Todd Matte, who will also be attending the party this Friday. During the time here we have all accomplished so much while working cooperatively together. We are all proud and happy to have made a difference in our community and hope that others will join the Art Center when it is complete. Although the Mosaic is not a finished piece, most of work has been done in the duration of six week and is planned to be completed this fall. In the future, the Art Center will be open to the community as a third home for all. There will be a cafe open, free wifi Internet, art classes, music classes and yoga classes and it will also be a place to just chill and hang out. We are hoping that the Art Center will have an overwhelming affect on the Overbrook community and the term "third home" will really take affect.
The Overbrook Art Center provides multi-generational services that seek to remain local, accessible and affordable. The Overbrook Arts Center is located at 6134 Lancaster Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and directly impacts the Lancaster Avenue business corridor and the residents of the surrounding Overbrook community.

Interview With Jerome Shabazz
MOSAIC DAY 1
Today we started on gluing the tile and the mirrors on to the wall out front. We are so proud to begin the process of transforming this bare and vandalized wall into something beautiful. We were so happy to have accomplished the hard part of the mosaic. All of the tile, mirrors, glass and cups are so greatly appreciated and will be part of the beautiful work of art that we're creating. Already, today someone from the neighborhood volunteered to help out. We encourage those in the community to come and help out and be apart of this creative movement.
So far the Art Center has been a good atmosphere for me and other teens that work with me. It makes me feel good to know that I am apart of something to better my community and the neighborhood I live in. I've made great friends working here and I've had fun times within the little time I've been here. I can't wait until the Art Center is complete, then people in my community can feel the same affect of a third home as I feel when I'm at the Art Center.

Overbrook Art Center Commercial
This is the Overbrook Art center. This summer we are working on two projects. One group is working in media development , they are making a documentary movie about the art center. The other group is making a Mosaic Facade for the front of the art center. We are the outreach group and what we do is reach out to the community and inform them about the various ways they can help or participate with our programs.
